With never before seeing a Professional cycle race and docking in Vigo Spain where the start was just less than one hour away, a group from the ship went to have an insight as to how things were organised.
The first thing that we came across was the signing in of all team riders on the elevated platform. On here was also the T.V. crew and the commentator who conducted several interviews as the riders left the platform.
Another thing that stood out was the number of spare cycles that were carried on top of the cars, all the cars being Skoda's and the total number of cars involved. It looked like one car per rider
All riders warmed up by riding up and down the narrow street in no particular order just kept moving, occasionally stopping to sign autographs or posing for a photograph with the fans
At the start there seemed to be a first come first serve attitude and not all the teams appeared to be together
At the allotted time the race started and the procession of cycles moved off with the back markers some distance behind the front runners and the cars carrying the spare cycles whizzed past them to keep up with the leading teams. It all seemed a bit crazy but within a matter of minutes the street was clear of all vehicles and cycles.
